about

"I’ve known Mount Xiao for more than twenty years. When I visited last it mostly rumbled low tremors beneath me, but as I approach again I see it has formed its own living land around it. Distinctive and unknown, yet inviting, warm and familiar.

My journey forwards is in footprints, or would be if walking, for most of this is flight.

At some point I have gathered pace just enough to leave the ground, then caught up in a gust like the landscaper before me. The humble creator has already set this course, whittling fast above the land, an unknowing mountain that left its sculptures strewn perfectly across the plains.

There is no reaching. Everything passes. Terrains form and then reimagine. There is likely much behind me, much that I have missed, but everything is in perpetual forward gliding panorama. My mind may catch up later, but even Xiao hasn’t fully examined everything he made.

As in all of life, some of the land is barren, while so much else in bloom. But there are few sharps edges here, Xiao kept the sharpness to himself to protect us, and so the dead branches brush as softly as the leaves.

Momentarily, flock of birds will fill the sky, birds not quite like I’ve ever seen, in formations I could not describe. At night the sky is an evolving lightshow against the darkest blue and electricity sparks gently in the air. Lightly fizzles, never burns.

I land before the mountain as the dawn comes again for a countless time, in what has really only been moments. Even after twenty years I am one of few to come here. My heart wants everyone to know this place, yet I fear the pressure on the land and the weight upon the mountain.

The soul is often restless even when the body rarely seems to move. This mountain, Xiao, moved itself, the wind willing. This was land made from necessity, a comfort to its own creator, a space from the cruelty of self and others. I settle here to sleep".

A big thanks to Mr. Matt Rigsby Smith for audio support and balancing out the frequencies in process called "mastering" that I know very little about and for excellent tabla and percussion on "Kimbara Song"

Special thanks to Matthew Cummins for all of his support and friendship during difficult times and likewise to James McCabe.

Much love to Leon Morgan for the revised 2020 artwork
